Our Story

A telephone call on February 4th, 1984 relayed good news that a Delta Gamma area vote approved the new colony. Our first pledging was held on Saturday, February 18th at the campus chapel. Epsilon Phi chapter was installed on October 20th, 1984. Gamma Zeta, Louisiana State University's chapter, was the installing chapter that helped us learn the history and rituals that came with our amazing fraternity. The first year at Loyola was trying, but good. Delta Gamma introduced its women and the rest of Loyola to what a national sorority was.

When Delta Gamma was founded at Loyola, the pledges were taught the history and how structured rush worked. These rules forced other sororities on campus to follow similar rules. Delta Gamma made Greek life at Loyola stronger. As collegians and alumnae of Delta Gamma, these women recognized their duty to further our chapter, fraternity, and other organizations, as well as to uphold the five points of the star, our values, and ritual.

For years our chapter has gathered at the Old Library steps—now the new

Jesuit Center—on bid day. New members run through the tunnel to meet their sisters and receive a sailor hat and cream-colored rose. Initially, both old and

new members gathered at Anchormate Picnics, which have since become Anchor Pal Dates, during the new member process in order to meet older members and develop the bonds of sisterhood. Some of the most treasured relationships between Delta Gammas have been the bonds between big sisters and little sisters. The bonds of sisterhood continue to grow as Epsilon Phi forms relationships with their local alumnae at annual events such as Founders Day, pumpkin carving, and the King Cake event.

At the 2012 Delta Gamma convention, Epsilon Phi received eleven awards and showed their strength, hard work, and commitment to Delta Gamma to the rest of the collegiate chapters and alumnae members. In 2014, our chapter started our own Foundation Scholarship for chapter members. In 2016, our chapter premiered a new and extremely successful philanthropy event, and was awarded with the highest chapter GPA on campus and in the southern region of Delta Gamma chapters. Our story continues on each year with the addition of new members who grow through their involvement and carry on the legacy of our original founders and all of the incredible women who have walked in their footsteps.
